Barriga
A quiet beach reached by a dirt road below the cliffs.
Praia da Barriga lies just north of Cordoama, at the end of a short dirt track from the clifftop road. It is smaller and even quieter than its neighbours, with dark sand, tall cliffs and a strong sense of being at the edge of things.
Lagos is the ideal base for exploring the entire coastline.

How to get there
By car: from Lagos, take the N125 to Vila do Bispo — around 35 minutes — then follow signs for Cordoama and continue north on the clifftop road; the final stretch to Barriga is a short dirt track, passable in a normal car with care. By bus: Vamus services reach Vila do Bispo in about 50 minutes, leaving roughly 6 km to cover by taxi or on foot. By bicycle: about 37 km from Lagos, with a rough gravel final section best walked. On foot: the clifftop path links Barriga with Cordoama in around 20 minutes and continues south to Castelejo.
What to expect
Barriga is a working piece of wild coast rather than a resort beach: sand, cliffs and swell, with almost nothing built. Visitors who come are usually surfers or walkers passing between Cordoama and Castelejo.
Practical notes
No facilities, no lifeguard, limited informal parking at the end of the track. Bring water and shade, and take everything back with you — this is a protected natural park.
Good to know
- How rough is the access road?
It is a short unsurfaced track. A normal car can usually manage it slowly in dry weather; after rain it is better to park on the surfaced road and walk in.
- Are there facilities at Barriga?
None. There is no kiosk, no toilets and no lifeguard, so bring everything you need.
- Can I walk here from Cordoama?
Yes — about 20 minutes along the clifftop path, with the option of continuing on towards Castelejo.
